Literally Reiki means Vital Universal Energy, "Universal Love", "Cosmic Energy", "Vital Force.
Our definition of Reiki as a simple and very effective therapy which uses channeling of energy to achieve balance of a patient’s health. This is achieved because Reiki harmonizes the whole energy of the body.
The Usui System of Reiki is named after its founder, Dr. Mikao Usui. Relying on an oral history, we know that Dr. Usui was an educator in Kyoto in the late 1800's. He began an investigation into the healing phenomena of history's greatest spiritual teachers. Through travel, study, research, and meditation, he developed the healing practice of Reiki and spent the rest of his life applying and teaching it.
Reiki is very effective because all matter is simply energy at different vibrational frequencies, and this vibration may loose its harmony and cause diseases. Reiki frequently reaches the endocrine glands which produce and regulate our hormones.
By using Reiki you are slowly pouring the pure water into yourself (the impure water in a glass) and as you continue to do this, you become more and more clear as the impurities inside the glass of water are dispersed and over the top of the glass; eventually leaving the water in the glass as pure as the water in the jug. When this is accomplished, we have perfect health.
The Usui System of Reiki Healing has spread through an oral tradition of teaching, sharing information, and exchanging treatments. Reiki is not something that can be learned by reading a book—it is something to experience by receiving a treatment, taking a class, and talking with Reiki practitioners, students, and masters.
